Be careful when using escrow services to pay for expensive items from remote sellers, such as cars, motor bikes or computers.
- Only use well known escrow services (such as escrow.com) with a proven track record.
- Beware of using escrow services (other than escrow.com) suggested by the seller.
- Assume any escrow service suggested is fraudulent until you can prove otherwise.
- Beware of any plan of action that involves wiring money by WesternUnion.

The website of this fake escrow company sports a "Copyright 2000-2005" notice, but the domain was only registered in January 2005. The postal address it uses is the Harrow Borough Council's main office. The main phone number is a Special Service number and its (fake?) fax number is in Bedford, UK. Real Harrow numbers would be in the 020 8xxx xxxx range. This address was abused for a whole string of fake escrow scams which we call the "157 Station Road Harrow" series. You will find many of them documented on this site, though without a doubt some have escaped our attention.

"support-escrow.com" is a fake escrow company whose domain is hosted by Yahoo. It was reported to us by someone who was trying to buy a car. The seller had offered a car on eBay and when contacted, wanted to sell it outside of eBay, suggesting this company for handling the payment. He claimed to live in the UK. Then the buyer was contacted by the fake escrow company:

It doesn't matter what recipient name you use in a Western Union wire transfer, as long as the person claiming the money at the other end knows the sender name, recipient name, amount and transaction code, as well as the response in an optional question/answer pair.
The distinction about passing the wire transfer details only to the escrow company and not to the seller is essentially meaningless, because they buyer has no guarantee that the fake Escrow company and the seller are not actually one and the same person. This is actually how fake escrow scams work: the seller *is* the escrow company. He receives and pockets the purchase price via Western Union but never ships ship the goods sold, which he doesn't actually possess. The postal address given to the buyer is fake.
The above email from the fake escrow company via Yahoo was sent from a dial-up AOL account, which is interesting, since the scammer used two AOL accounts:

We have reported this fraud to Yahoo, but they have not suspended the domain yet.
