Mostly I find spam postings advertising fake brand merchandise, with the odd bit of SEO spam thrown in. Today I found a link to a site selling a product called &#8220;Free Audio Editor 2014&#8221; (free-audio-editor dot com), which as it turns out is also available at download.cnet.com. Why would a free product be advertised via blog spams, I wondered. What would they gain?<\/p>\n<p>So I downloaded a copy and uploaded it to virustotal.com for checking for malware. As it turns out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.virustotal.com\/en\/file\/b8124f9e1236211f59ebf12a1e8b2182f976b93c319b4b55747f3170aa820375\/analysis\/1425694170\/\">11 out of 57 products that analysed it didn&#8217;t like it<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><code>AVware\tInstallCore (fs)\t20150307<br \/>\nAvira\tAdware\/InstallCore.A.367\t20150307<br \/>\nBaidu-International\tAdware.Win32.InstallCore.XA\t20150306<br \/>\nComodo\tApplication.Win32.InstallCore.AEK\t20150306<br \/>\nDrWeb\tTrojan.InstallCore.151\t20150306<br \/>\nESET-NOD32\ta variant of Win32\/InstallCore.XA potentially unwanted\t20150307<br \/>\nK7AntiVirus\tUnwanted-Program ( 004a9d5f1 )\t20150306<br \/>\nK7GW\tUnwanted-Program ( 004a9d5f1 )\t20150306<br \/>\nNorman\tInstallCore.CERT\t20150306<br \/>\nVBA32\tMalware-Cryptor.InstallCore.gen\t20150306<br \/>\nVIPRE\tInstallCore (fs)\t20150307<br \/>\n<\/code><\/p>\n<p>The results suggest that this product may be adware. <\/p>\n<p>I would never install software on my PC that was advertised via spam.
